How We Do It

The Foundry process works on you with three different tools: Seminars, Team Leadership, and Christian Community

Seminars - Seminars are the meat and potatoes of what you'll be involved in during your 10-week internship. Seminar time is designed to increase your understanding and knowledge of God's Kingdom, but to also increase the depth in your personal relationship and intimacy with Jesus Christ and His Church. Here's a sampling of what you'll be doing and learning during seminar time:

  • Every Tues-Fri, from 8-9am, interns will spend time reading Scripture, journaling, and discussing together
  • DISC Personality Profiles
  • Deep Ministry in a Shallow World, Kara Powell, Fuller Youth Institute
  • Connecting, Dr. Larry Crabb
  • Tucker Leadership Lab (ropes course)
  • Christian Freedom and Responsibility
  • Cross Cultural Ministry Experience with Mission Adelante (www.missionadelante.org)
  • Historicity and Construction of the Bible
  • Personal Financial Planning Course
  • Spiritual Gifts
  • Apologetics, Cults, Other Religions, and trip to the Mormon Liberty Jail

Team Leadership - Each intern will be assigned to one of the Shoal Creek Student Ministry Teams, either Buya (middle school) or Crash (high school). Interns are given real responsibility during the summer so that they can make a difference in the lives of real kids. Our goal is for interns to leave their summer at Shoal Creek better equipped to serve and lead in whatever environment they are returning to after the summer. Each week, every intern is expected to serve Sunday mornings in their designated team area, and to also use Wednesday nights as contact event nights to build relationships with the students and build up the existing ministry programs. Interns will be expected to regularly plan events that put into practice the love of Christ.

Christian Community - All interns will live in housing that Shoal Creek provides (separated by gender). This is an extremely unique and advantageous experience. Getting to spend 10 weeks with the other young men and women that are learning, processing, and experiencing the same content as you will be a catalyst for your spiritual journey. In addition to the regular time you spend in community with other interns, you'll spend two weekends at retreats planned for the interns.
